New Destiny Officially Opens Marcello Manor
On Friday, September 26th, New Destiny officially opened Marcello Manor, a recently completed 9-story building in the Bronx. The project will provide 38 units of affordable rental housing for low-income individuals and families, including formerly homeless domestic violence survivors. Marcello Manor was named for Kathleen Werner Marcello, a courageous survivor of domestic violence. Her son, David DaSilva, said, “My mother instilled hope and we want her spirit to be an inspiration for others.”
Members of the Da Silva and Marcello families joined over 60 funders, development partners, and friends at Friday afternoon’s opening event. New York State Commissioners Deborah Van Amerongen from the Division of Housing and Community Renewal and David A. Hansell from the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance made presentations along with representatives from the Bronx Borough President’s Office, Enterprise Community Partners, and the Corporation for Supportive Housing.
